CHAPTER 3
The market ecosystem
How e-mobility can
work for everyone
Inside this chapter:- EVs can benefit all of us- EVs are built for how people live today- EV charging is good for business
- Key highlights from this chapter
STATE OF THE MARKET | MYTHBUSTING | THE MARKET ECOSYSTEM | THE FUTURE OF MOBILITY | WHY CHARGEPOINT
Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from transportation account for 29% of all GHG emissions in the U.S., making the sector the single largest contributor to GHGs.22 Similarly, in Europe, transportation is also the single largest contributor of GHGs, with nearly a quarter of all carbon emissions being tied to transportation.23
A recent study from the Keck School of Medicine of USC found that for every additional 20 zero emission vehicles (ZEVs) per 1,000 people, there was a 3.2% drop in the rate of asthma-related emergency visits in certain zip codes.24
We encourage people to travel as sustainably as possible, and EVs just fit right into that philosophy.
Since 2007, ChargePoint customers, partners and drivers have enabled:
10B+ electric miles driven
2.2M+ metric tons of GHG emissions savings
410M+ gallons of gas avoided

Aside from instant torque and forward-thinking design, every BEV on the road today has a major advantage over the supercars of yesteryear. It’s not under the hood (where you’ll probably find an extra trunk anyway); it’s behind the dash. Today, software is winning over an entirely new generation of car enthusiasts.
EV drivers can charge wherever they are — just like they do with all their other devices. On road trips, apps and in-dash software route drivers to the most convenient charging stops. As any current EV driver will tell you — the old model of fueling isn’t just inconvenient; it’s misaligned with how we live our lives today.
Being able to show people not just that we have EV charging spots, but whether they are currently available, and then enabling drivers to get in line if they aren’t — that just makes it stickier for our clients.
Including an in-dash experience that clearly and efficiently gives drivers everything they need to find, pay for and track charging helps differentiate auto OEMs’ electric models from competitor offerings.
Dealerships offering charging can attract more potential buyers to their lots, while including home charging in the sale provides a valuable benefit for drivers. Dealerships adept at quelling new EV drivers’ concerns during this important decision can help create customer relationships that last a lifetime.
By offering EV charging, businesses can attract customers to their locations. Custom branding and integration with an organization’s loyalty programs can promote customer engagement and encourage repeat visits, helping to put a business on the map for millions of EV drivers across North America and Europe.
EV charging is a valuable amenity that helps attract and retain residents while increasing property values at multifamily communities. Developers can benefit by achieving green certifications and complying with the latest building codes.
Companies across multiple sectors can benefit by providing charging for their EV-driving customers.
Because electricity is inexpensive (compared with gas), pervasive, safe and can be distributed wherever there is a plug, it’s available to virtually any business that wants to sell it or give it away to their customers, employees or the public.
Due to the average dwell time of most EVs (around 30 minutes), look for “charging hubs” to become popular fueling destinations in the coming years.
What’s important to us is availability, communication and resolving any issues we have. ChargePoint is always reachable, takes issues seriously and responds in a timely manner. We also have regular communication cycles in place. So, considering all that, I would score our partnership with ChargePoint at 10/10."
Advanced software enhances the EV driver experience, while fueling is as easy as plugging in any other device, enhancing a modern lifestyle.
Offering EV charging can attract more customers and create lasting relationships for many types of businesses.
EV charging attracts tenants and increases property values for multifamily communities and commercial real estate developers.
